Another great book by Peter James

A few years ago I stumbled across an author that very quickly became a favourite of mine for a number of reasons. His characters are so real you feel you know them and when something happens to them, be it good or bad, you feel it!

Now I could have taken one of the twelve superb Roy Grace books to review, the problem is which one?

So I decided on The House on Cold Hill, a stand alone story that has more than a touch of paranormal.

A dream for a lot of people is to buy a big house and get away from it all and this is how the story starts. Ollie Harcourt moves his family in and things start to happen that really can't be explained which makes the reader ask questions, the skill of a great writer is to answer them and of course by the time the book is finished most are answered.

Some writers can go into fine detail to try to scare the reader, personally that's not for me and it's something Peter doesn't do either, he gives the reader just enough information without getting gruesome. This shows that not only can he tell a story but he respects his readers' imagination.

I love a book that leaves you in suspense and this book does that on so many levels, it also makes you question what is real and what is paranormal or is the character just going mad?

Peter's books are always a page turner and this is no different, just when you think you've worked it out he takes you in a completely different direction!

Peter is a compelling storyteller and he ratchets up the tension when and where necessary, I'll admit while he hasn't given me nightmares he's certainly given me food for thought.

You won't be surprised to read that The House on Cold Hill scores a well deserved five 🌟 review.
