Police; the numbers don't add up.

If you got home one evening and found your house had been ransacked then the likelihood is the first call you'll make is to the Police.

Now can you imagine if they replied, "Sorry we don't have anyone spare but we'll get someone to you as soon as they become available, the current wait time is two hours,"

Let's face it you'd be fuming and rightly so.

The simple truth is that as the population is growing but the number of Police personnel is going down and that to me makes no sense at all.

So in light of the numbers declining I was surprised to see that the Metropolitan Police have rolled out a new terrorist team.

More armed police are to be seen on patrol in London, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan have said.

Sir Bernard announced the move to reassure the public and deter attackers following terrorist attacks in Europe.

The Met has already said the number of armed officers will go up in London by 600 to 2,800.

And a further 900 armed officers are planned to be in operation for the rest of England and Wales.

You see it still doesn't make any sense to me that at a time when this country, indeed the world is on the brink of war, we're cutting numbers instead of adding to them.

War is the job of the armed forces but this isn't like any war that's happened before, it's not like terrorists go round wearing a uniform or keep the fighting to a battlefield.

Just a few days before revealing the new force we had a warning from the head of the Metropolitan Police.

A terror attack on the UK is "highly likely" and it is a "case of when, not if", the Met Police Commissioner says.

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said the threat level has been "severe" for the past two years and armed officers have been increased by 600 to 2,800.

Sir Bernard said after events in Europe he cannot "entirely" reassure people.

"I feel and understand that fear and as the police officer in charge of preventing such an attack know that you want me to reassure you. I am afraid I cannot do that entirely," said Sir Bernard, writing in the Mail on Sunday.

"Our threat level has been at "Severe" for two years - it remains there.

"It means an attack is highly likely - you could say it is a case of when, not if."

Speaking about recent foiled terror plots, he said a UK-based terrorist also had "advanced plans to carry out a Lee Rigby-style attack on US soldiers, using a car and knives to murder the servicemen and potentially detonate a bomb as part of the murderous plot".

The perfect start for the new 'elite' squad should have been Russell square where sadly one woman died and several people were injured.

Were they to be seen?

Most media outlets claimed it was a 'mental health' issue.

So why is the Evening Standard reporting this?

The Somali invader who carried out a knife attack in central London is an Islamist who openly supported one of Britain’s most famous self-admitted Al-Qaeda operatives—and is not “mentally ill” as the establishment and controlled media claims.

So if the threat is so high, and I believe it is, why are Police recruitment numbers on the way down?

A recruitment drive is needed and not the other way round.
